WTB :used 4X4 Diesel-WHAT IS BEST YEAR
QUESTION:I have a 1896 F-250 XLT lariat with a 460 bought used &
I've owned for appx. 6 years. The fuel usage is killing me!!I'm looking to
buy a used 4X4 Diesel for pulling a 7,000lb. load to the desert and dunes
for offroad riding. Are there certain years that are more desireable because
of excellence? Also what years do I stay away from? Anyone have an idea of
how many miles I can expect to get out of a diesel engine and the mpg. I can
expect to get? Just doing my homework!!
ANSWER: my 7.3 diesel has 275,000 on it, my friend has 2 89's with over 4000,000 on
them.my 88 gets 10-11 mpg around town, and 28-32 on the road. i have a banks
turbo on mine, and used to tow a 19,000 lb mini excavator all over with it, and
never had any problem
If that 1896 F-250 is in any kind of shape at all, some museum will pay
enough for it so you can go out and buy a new 03 4X4 Dually Crew Cab PSD
and you will still have change left over.
I just bought a 99 F250 4X4 with Auto trans and Powerstroke, live in
Central Alaska. My mileage so far in about 4 months has ranged from 12
to 16 MPG. The 12 was in 20 to 30 below and includes hours of idling
time! The 16 was highway running around 65 to 70 in the cold, about half
in 4 wheel drive. Also running number 1 fuel which gives lower mileage.
I am impressed with the mileage and power, can't wait to see what I get
with number 2 fuel!
