QUESTION:A few times in the past I've seen a nifty little excavator on army
surplus sites, it was a mini excavator top mounted onto an unpowered
base, with two wheels on one end and two feet on the other. The only
way it could move under its own power was to drag itself across the
ground with the arm. The useful thing about it was that you could
drive a vehicle up to it and hitch it up to a NATO hitch, it formed
its own trailer, and with the wheels on the end of long arms there was
quite a lot of ground clearance so it could be towed across rough
terrain.
Now I've mentioned it to someone who might like one and wants to know
prices. Can I find it any more? Of course not. Anyone got any
pointers? I've tried all the surplus sites in my bookmarks and have
been googling during spare time all day.
ANSWER: It's similar, but more modern, and once again more off-road capable
than the smalley, I'll try searching for "walking excavator" though
and will see how that goes. I've tried "trailer mounted excavator"
and lots of other variations but not "walking".
