Kubota vs Massey vs New Holland
QUESTION:I am looking to buy a new tractor and would appreciate any thoughts on
Kubota, Massey, or New Holland tractors in the 25-35 HP size with a loader.
It will be used mostly for shredding, and occasionally a little dirt work.
All 3 have dealers in my area, and I have eliminated JD and Mahindra from
consideration for various reasons
ANSWER: I once was the biggest of Kubota fans. No more. Parts are gold and their
attitude is worse. Masseys have always been good solid tractors. My family
has had and operated them for years. Of course today's tractors are alot
different. Always thought the fords were somewhat clunky, but the new
holland part of ford-new holland may offset that somewhat. New holland skid
steer is one of the best.
I run two of the US built skiddies. They are good, no nonsense
machines and fairly basic, which is not a bad thing. The control
levers are rather heavy and uncomfortable [due to the ribbed hand
grips] and they do bounce more than average when turning on a high
grip surface due to their longer-than-average wheelbase.
Very satisfied with them over two years and about a thousand hours
each so far.
They use Ishikawajima Shibarau engines which are very good. You may be
interested to know that these Japanese engines are licensed to Perkins
UK who call them Perkins 100 series engines and are fitted to JCB and
other plant.
Since Perkins is owned by Cat, then it is no surprise that they are
also available as Cat engines.
