QUESTION:Per Monday's Orlando Sentinel (the fish wrap that it is), the Mission Space
attraction has been approved to replace Horizons and and is slated to open
sometime in 2003. It will have a ride simulating the space shuttle's G-forces
at launch. (I have heard through the grapevine that it's nothing more than a
centrifuge.)
I also heard from a somewhat reliable source that the Excavator ride has been
approved for Animal Kingdom. The person who told me about it said it's
basically a wild mouse type coaster, meaning the cars spin. He also said don't
look for anything spectacular or innovative. He said it's to be built in
DinoLand where the tent currently sits. (Or used to sit, it may have been taken
down, a long time since I've been there.)
ANSWER: I missed my walk-thru appointment due to the generosity of the staff of the
All Star Movies. (A side note: I wouldn't recommend that resort to my DOG
after having stayed there. The service level isn't worth what a Guest would
pay, the room is a well-decorated sardine tin, and it's not even worth the
CM discounted price.) I was informed, however, since I wasn't allowed a
walkthru during operating hours for whatever reason, the general status of
things. The structural integrity of the building is in question, parts of
the ride system have deteriorated beyond safe limits, and any/all changes
are on hold at the moment pending an Engineering/Imagineering/Management
decision on what, exactly, to do with the building (i.e. level it, make it a
cast parking lot, repair it as best they can and hope to hell it holds up.)
There ARE official plans, though, for a space-themed attraction. But there's
not even a tentative opening date for it because, again, it's on hold. As
for the Animal Kingdom rumours, no clue but I'll look into them. Sounds
impractical, but that's just my opinion. Sounds more of something for Park X
