QUESTION:I think this is what I need! I've spent two days digging my first hole... I
get 2 feet down and hit a huge rock. I mean huge. I made the hole an extra
foot long, and still can't get it out!
I didn't want to give up, knowing that I'm going to face the same with every
hole I dig, but after about 10 hours, I figured, well, it is the first one,
so maybe I'll just move it back a bit (I'm not on the property line anyway),
and dig... so that's what I did, and guess what. I found the huge rock's
twin brother! I can see this is going to be a long job!
ANSWER: easiest thing to do is get a mini excavator to do it, the holes will be a
bit large, but all you have to do is take some scrap plywood and put in the
sides, make sure you leave atleast 6-9 inches around the pole for cement,
then just fill in the out sides around the plywood. This will save hours of
labour. If its a small fence it may not be worth it, call around to find out
the prices, and some rental places rent the mini excavators, if the ground
is level ane easily accessable you can do it yourself, but if you on hills
and inbetween trees, get a professional to do it, it should only take him 5-10 mins to do a hole, and i think avg rate is 35 an hour or so. And for
rental is 140 a day. Like i said, if its a big fence, go with the machine,
difenatly worth it, we are just finshing up a fence that has over 200 holes,
saves alot of time and money.
