QUESTION:rumors say that good solid high-quality (not trailer park trash)
pre-built homes are available these days, in like the $40-80,000
range, that can be brought in and set on a foundation and are as nice
as a "real" house would be. Anybody with anecdotal evidence of this,
or names of quality manufacturers, please mail me quickly.
ANSWER: Hey, could you all put rhod on hold for a couple weeks? I'm going to
be a little scarce around here and I don't want to be missing stuff,
like opportunities for dumb jokes and cascades.
My parents' house burned down[0] last Friday night, and while that
doesn't matter much to most of you, the good wishes of my friends are
much appreciated now.
Everybody's fine, so no big deal, it's just a lot of work to get things
under control -- we've been rushing to deal with insurance, and a
temporary trailer, and clothing and necessities, and so on. The next
couple days will be spent salvaging out closets full of stuff that is
only smoke-damaged, and any furniture that's still usable and so on,
then we're bringing in a bucket loader, backhoe and trucks to wreck
out the remains, finding and purchasing a good modular home[1] and
getting it in and set on a foundation. So the Kelley family (brother
and I, and dad) is now in the construction business. We're dropping
everything work-related until we get a home built for the parents,
so I won't be in rhod except possibly to skim now and again.
So... merry holidays to all, I'm mostly out of here for a while.
Mail will be read and appreciated, and happy ing holidays to
everybody. (Grin, I'm not actually pissed, building projects
are fun. Life is good; a house is just wood.)
