QUESTION:I've got an old Hyster forklift with a Hercules JX4D3 engine. The water pump
is shot and I've not been able to find a replacement anywhere. I'm
considering rigging a homemade hose fitting over the hole in the block where
the old water pump originally mounted, then rigging a 12volt electric pump
to circulate the water. Any ideas on 12v pumps that are suitable for that
kind of application? Any ideas how much water I'd need to flow, gpm?
The forklift is rarely used more than a few minutes at a time.
ANSWER: Why not convert it to thermo-syphon? Connect the block direct to the
bottom of the radiator. You will need to fit a non pressure radiator
cap.
If it's only used for short periods that should suffice. A lot of motor
cars
made do with the system..
