Heavy Equipment Transporter
QUESTION:I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this
company's limited production resin kits. I have just learned through an
advertisement in Military Miniatures in Review magazine (Issue 19) that this
company (a subsidiary of AFV Club I believe) produces a 1/35 scale kit of
the M911 8x6 25-ton Heavy Equipment Transporter (Kit No. HF-005) and the
associated Talbert 64-ton Tank Transporter trailer (Kit No. HF-006). Each
kit retails for just under $200.00 U.S. I am seriously considering
pre-ordering both these kits from Legends Toys and Hobbies in California
since these kits are apparently in very limited supply and, therefore,
difficult to get hold of.
I already have a copy of Accurate Armour's FAUN Elefant tank transporter
kit, which I find rather impressive (although I have not yet been able to
set aside enough spare time to make it worth starting yet). Therefore,
before ordering the Hobby Fan kits, I was curious whether anyone has had an
opportunity to compare any of Hobby Fan's resin kits to Accurate Armour's
product line, in terms of overall quality, level of detail, accuracy, etc.
Would the Hobby Fan kits be considered reasonable value for the money.
Certainly the FAUN Elefant kit was very expensive, but it looks like you get
your money's worth considering the apparent scope of the project.
Any opinions/information regarding the Hobby Fan kits is greatly
appreciated.
ANSWER: Not yet. I don't have reference material on these vehicles so I'm unable to makethat kind
of comparison. I can give you an idea about the amount of flash, air-bubbles
warpage, crispness et.c from a purely kit comparison aspect though. The french magazine
Steel Masters had a building report on the M911 and they were impressed if
I remember correctly. Definitely. If you calculate the quota 'spent dollars'/'building time of kit' it
shouldcompare favourably with most other kits.
