QUESTION:Due to a gang of racoons I have been forced back into the modeling business. I
have a large collection of AMT and Ertl trucks and trailers in various stages of
construction. I am not interested in selling any. I am interested in finding
sites and information on where to find parts. I can build anything, except
tires and some engine parts and chroming. 1. What manufacturers are selling these models and where can I get a look at
all that is available? 2. Where can I find tires? I want to build some heavy equipment, but where do
I find the tires? 3. Are there any companies that sell 1/25 humans in various positions or parts
that can be assembled in position? How about dogs? 4. I'm also interested in farm equipment. Any help there?
I have seen some photos in the binary section and I am really impressed at the
detail invested into the airplanes. I hope to be able to learn from this group
as well as help.
ANSWER: emi models are really cool, really detailed and REALLY expensive aren't
they? I love building them though. It's nice to see someone else
interested in them. Here are the answers I know to your questions:
1. AMT/Ertl as you know. (They have recently released a tanker and a semi if
your haven't seen them) Also, Italeri builds quite a few but range from $40-$120 USD. Finally, my favorite is Revell of Germany. They build cool
trucks/fire engines. In fact they are releasing a Truck/Trailer combo that
is one of the F1 team haulers. They also have a few 40's and 50's truck
kits. The only problem is that they run $60-$120 USD. 2. I buy tires at local hobby shows. They always have a couple booths that
are parts and the tires are about $.25 a peice. 3. Italeri makes some people and Revell of Germany did make some that you
can find if you keep a look out. 4. Other than the two rereleases mentioned by someone else, everything is
expensive. On ebay for instance the Caterpillar DH8 often sells for $70.
If you find anyone making these type of kits, let me know because I would
love to build some of the larger farm items.
