Diecast Construction Equipment

QUESTION:

I recently saw that AMT/Ertl has two model kits available of construction and farm vehicles -- a John Deere tractor and a backhoe (also Deere, I think). In 1/24 scale, it seemed.

I was encouraged, as I've always loved these kind of trucks. I hoped that they have now released other vehicles like excavators or loaders, but their poor quality website doesn't mention theese kits at all -- just their smaller diecast toys.

Anyone know if they produce other styrene kits of construction equipment?

ANSWER:

My understanding is that Ertl no longer has the right to use the IH or MF names, so it is doubtful we will see those kits any time soon.

The IH 1466 tractor is not unknown on ebay. Prices are generally in the $60-$80 range. Two IH tractors, Art? I know there was the MF 1155 and the
(butchered, IMHO) MF "Spirit of America", but I am unfamiliar with anything other than the IH 1466 tractor. The Ertl catalogs the pop up occasionally from that era certainly never mention two IH's. Either that, or they were ahead of their time. The only real stinker of the bunch was Ertl's JD 310 backhoe. I figure all of those hydraulic cylinders were deemed "too much", so blobs were substituted instead. Sigh. The AMT Cat is fairly good, aside from the clearly missing plumbing and poor track. The rest of the construction/ag equipment is pretty good, even for today's standards.
